LEE Slater secured his second race win in Division Two of the Birmingham cross country league.

On a fast, flat grassland course at Gloucester, the Dudley and Stourbridge Harriers (DASH) athlete was in a leading group of four that quickly broke away from the rest of the other 230 plus runners.

In the end it came down to a sprint finish with Slater taking the honours by one second with a time of 29min 41sec, as only five seconds covered the first four home.

Good packing by DASH runners as Dave Nation had a great run for 28th in 32.34, with M50 vet Paul Waby just behind in 30th in 32.37, and Rob Meredith 35th in a time of 32.54.

The team was completed by Dave Ratcliffe 66th in 34.03 and Ian Furness making a welcome return from a long injury with a solid 99th in a time of 35.08. The team finished sixth on the day and moved up three places overall to sixth place from 18 teams.

Other DASH runners gave good backup with Jordan Smith 102nd in 35.18 and Scott Palmer 118th in 36.10.
