A GIRLS football team from Halesowen has made it to the semi-final of the FA Country Cup.

Halas Hawks under 16 girls will now take on Coventry City Ladies' under 16s this Saturday.

To make it through to the semi-final stage is a massive achievement for the side and highlights a big improvement from the youngsters this season.

The Hawks play each Saturday in the Stourbridge and District Football League at under 16 level and are managed by Dave Thomas.

The team also boasts a level two FA qualified coach in the form of Martin Edgecox as well as the expertise of his assistant Ian Shingler.

Thomas said: "It has been a great season so far and it will be brilliant for the girls to gain experience from playing a side like Coventry.

"It will be a David versus Goliath task, as they play in the Central Warwick League and have played 10 won 10 this season. Our girls will do their best as usual, and hopefully learn lots in the process."

The coaching team all have girls in the side.

Emily Edgcox and Abby Shingler are regulars as are captain Elizabeth Thomas and ten-goal top goalscorer Olivia Thomas.

This season the girls have already won 10 games, drawn two and lost just one, scoring 31 goals along the way and conceding only 13.
