CHAIRMAN Colin Brookes thinks this Saturday's game against play-off contenders Ashton United offers Halesowen Town the perfect chance recapture their goalscoring form.

The Yeltz have not hit the back of the net for four games and have seen their unbeaten start to the year come to an end with back-to-back defeats.

They lost 1-0 away to Nantwich last Saturday before a valiant defeat by the same scoreline against FC United of Manchester on Tuesday night.

However, Brookes was full of praise for manager John Hill's men for the way they handled the FC United test and is now looking forward to welcoming fifth-placed Ashton to The Grove.

He said: "We have done really well recently but must find a way to get back on the scoresheet.

"This Saturday's game offers a good chance to do that in front of our own fans. Even though we have lost the last two the performance against FC United was great to see.

"The players defended well and worked really hard against the best team I have seen in this division.

"It was also pleasing to bounce back after a disappointing display at Nantwich.

"We are now well-respected in this league and people are taking note. We now need to carry that on."

Against FC United, the Yeltz lost out after Greg Daniels got the winner midway through the second half as the hosts recorded a 10th consecutive league victory to move above Skelmersdale United to the top of the table.

It was an improved showing after the loss to Nantwich three days before.

Hales fell short after failing to deal with a Max Harrop winner in the 12th minute during their first trip to the Weaver Stadium.

Town created a couple of early chances, with Forde seeing an early long shot easily blocked and a swirling cross hit the bar.

But the Dabbers soon grew into the game and quickly took control, finding particular success down the right hand side.
