THE senior section of Halesowen Golf Club have held their annual dinner and prize presentation.

The event took place in the clubhouse on November 3 and was attended by 70 seniors and guests.

The trophies were presented by senior captain Dave Adcock and ladies captain Elaine Povey with the highlight of the evening being the achievement of senior’s handicap secretary Alan Breeden.

Alan has been a playing member for 50 years and remembers well his first annual subscription of 18 Guineas plus a joining fee of 14 Guineas. This year he completed his biggest ever haul of trophies with success in winning The President’s Cup, The Senior Captain’s Prize and The David Roberts Senior’s Championship.

This week the seniors will be taking a break from their Winter League schedule to play for the Shenstone 300 Trophy. This competition was inaugurated in 2014 to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the birth of William Shenstone. The trophy will continue to be played for each year in November in honour of Shenstone who first landscaped the Leasowes Estate now classified as Grade 1 English Heritage Parkland and of which the Golf Course is now part.
