A MUCH-DEPLETED Belbroughton side suffered a 42-run defeat at home to Stourport in Division One of the Worcestershire County League.

Having chosen to bowl, the Tons made regular inroads to leave Stourport 140-8. However, some late clean striking meant a challenging total of 223-9 was posted.

Belbroughton started positively but wickets fell at ill-advised times which meant they were to fall short of the target.

The club’s seconds were comprehensively beaten in the reverse fixture while the thirds continue to chase the league leaders after a four-wicket win at Romsley.

Belbroughton’s firsts will take on fourth-placed Worcester away this weekend.

Meanwhile, Basement boys Oldswinford and Stourbridge Social secured a much-needed victory over neighbours Hagley last Saturday.

Richard Milner (60) top scored as Oldswinford made 218-9 from their 50 overs.

They then bowled Hagley out for 171 to aid their survival fight.

Oldswinford will now welcome Colwall while Hagley go to Droitwich Spa (both 1pm).

Pedmore are second from bottom in Division One after a 79-run defeat at home to Worcester.

They were bowled out for just 190 after their visitors had won the toss and posted 269.

Pedmore will now go to Burghill, Tillington and Weobley this Saturday.

In Division Two, Enville’s first team welcomed second in the table Chaddesley Corbett to Enville Hall last Saturday.

The hosts won the toss and, having chosen to bat, soon found themselves in trouble as they were reduced to 19 for 3 within six overs.

Jono Howells dug in for a hard fought 50, but after he fell straight after drinks Enville stumbled to 101 for 8. With partners running out, Spencer Mann played aggressively to post his first half century of the season. He was last man out for 55 as the hosts struggled to 150 off only 40 overs.

Enville needed a good start to have a chance of defending the sub-standard total, but Chaddesley’s openers gave them a solid base.

Mitch Jones pulled off a remarkable diving catch in the deep off Dan Sutton. Rhodri Parfitt and Trevor Spears also took a wicket apiece but it was too little, too late as the visitors knocked the runs off in 30 overs for the loss of just three wickets. Enville will travel to Coombs Wood this Saturday hoping to turn their fortunes round.

Meanwhile, Lye lost by seven wickets to Coombs Wood and face another tough task at leaders Redditch this Saturday.
