COOMBS Wood maintained their promotion push with a win at Lye last Saturday.

Their hosts raced to 160-2 at drinks, but The Wood staged a brilliant comeback as Lye were bowled out for 230 inside 42 overs.

Raja Shakeel Nawaz top-scored for Lye with a fine 121 in 85 balls, but struggled to find a partner as wickets regularly tumbled.

Home batsmen Mark Bateman (55), Sam Perruzza (70), Gulham Abbass (38) and Dave Meehan (42 not out) all contributed well as Wood coasted home with five overs to spare.

Enville are the visitors this Saturday (1pm start) and July will become a defining month as The Wood take on fellow promotion rivals Feckenham and Chaddersley.

Elsewhere, the seconds hosted Hagley in a match reduced to 35 overs per side after poor weather conditions.

Hagley posted 172-9, with Naheem Abbass returning figures of 4-42.

The Wood began their reply in disastrous style, but Abu Saeed (57 not out) and Nigel Butterworth (39) shared a match-winning stand and Wood ran out winners despite overs running out.

Their impressive run of form will be put to the test as they travel to Colwall this Saturday.
