ASSISTANT manager Matt Clarke has praised the character of Halesowen Town's players after victory over Mickleover Sports.

The Yeltz secured a 1-0 away win on Tuesday night thanks to Kaiman Anderson's 12th goal of the campaign.

But it was the nature of the success that pleased Clarke the most as Hales quickly bounced back from a disappointing draw at home to Ashton United three days earlier.

The Yeltz squandered a two goal lead handed to them thanks to strikes from Jason Goddard and Anderson as Ashton fought back to make it 2-2 late on last Saturday.

Clarke said: "It felt like a defeat against Ashton. It was a game that we should have won and harsh words were exchanged in the dressing room afterwards.

"We weren't great on the night but our keeper hasn't had a save to make, yet we've managed to conceded twice and let the win slip away from us.

"The pleasing thing, however, was that we reacted to that set back in the right manner and showed how good our character is.

"The good thing about the Northern Premier League is that the games come thick and fast and you soon get chance to right the wrongs.

"We said before that if we could get a win at Mickleover then it would go a long way to making up for the disappointment of Saturday.

"There was hardly need for a team talk before the game because the players knew they had to show a reaction."

Anderson's fine form in front of goal has seen him get on the scoresheet in five consecutive games.

Clarke said: "It really helps when you have some one playing so well. He can score from anywhere and it really gives us a chance in every game."

Anderson's goalscoring exploits have coincided with a fine run of form for the Yeltz.

They have lost just one game in their last 10 as they prepare for this Saturday's trip to fellow mid-table side Grantham Town.

"It isn't an easy place to go as it has a running track around the outside and conditions can get very windy," added Clarke. "But the way the dressing room is at the moment and the positive manner in which we're playing then we go there with every chance of building on our good run."

George Cleet and Lee Chilton are back in contention for Grantham after missing the Mickleover win.
