DUDLEY Kingswinford director of rugby Neil Shillingford is targeting a positive January as his side look to gatecrash the Midlands One West promotion party.

The Heathbrook outfit head into the new year in confident mood after six consecutive league wins.

They will resume with a local derby when Wolverhampton visit on January 7.

A trip to second-placed Bournville and a home clash with third-placed Burton will quickly follow.

Shillingford said: "We will know a lot more about if we'll be in the promotion picture at the end of January.

"We want to keep chipping away at the gap to third place first of all but at the moment anything is possible.

"On any given week, the teams at the top of the table can lose to those at the bottom, which gives us a chance. If we can pick it back up with a win over Wolverhampton then we could start to close the gap further.

"January will tell us if we're likely to be in the mix. We have some difficult places to go ourselves but if we can make sure we don't slip up against those below us then we can hopefully progress.

"We will only focus on the Wolverhampton game for now. It is a really good local derby and we feel like we owe them a result.

"Momentum is important and a win over Wolverhampton would be massive heading into the other big games coming up."
