WORCESTERSHIRE'S loss proved Himley's gain as batsman Tom Kohler-Cadmore struck a half-century as they bagged an emphatic eight-wicket win at Barnards Green.

Kohler-Cadmore had been dropped from Worcestershire’s side for their County Championship Division Two clash at Sussex after verbally agreeing to join Yorkshire next season.

Hard-hitting Kohler-Cadmore is out of contract at the end of the campaign and Worcestershire are understood to have offered him a new deal. But the batsman agreed to a move to Yorkshire to return to the county where he cut his cricketing teeth.

He initially developed through the Yorkshire age-group system and was the subject of a 28-day approach from the Headingley outfit.

However, his exclusion from the Worcestershire side meant he was free to open for Himley in their Birmingham and District League Division One clash last Saturday.

Himley’s Adam Finch (3-32) and Stuart Wedge (3-33) polished off Green for 154 before Kohler-Cadmore (56) and former Herefordshire captain Chris Boroughs (41 not out) helped steer their side to victory.

Himley skipper Greg Wright was more than happy to benefit from Kohler-Cadmore's late inclusion.

He said: "It was a big bonus for us to have Tom available. We didn't think he'd be playing but he's a high-quality performer and it was nice to have him.

"He hadn't quite hit his straps for us this season until Saturday but he always comes to us looking to do well. It's pretty clear he wasn't dropped for ability reasons at Worcestershire.

"He's a pretty relaxed guy and is handling the stuff away from Himley well.

"That said, I still think we'd have backed ourselves to knock off the runs because we have some good players that are pushing hard for their chance. But we were calm and calculated and got the job done."

On the performance, he added: "We were very pleased and I think we showed the side that we can be.

"Barnards Green did have a few guys missing but it was still good to go there and put in the performance we did.

"We needed a reaction after a flat showing the week before and we got that. Some guys didn't get chance to get into the game because of the dominance of our performance but you could see we were switched on right from the word go. Our fielding was really good and we were ruthless with the bat.

Himley will look for back-to-back wins when they welcome Bridgnorth this Saturday (noon start).

"We're back at home this weekend and we really do want to start finding our consistency now," said Wright.

"There are a few players that haven't got a lot of cricket under their belts but we just need to learn quickly and start to show what we can do more often, starting with a win this Saturday."
