CAPTAIN Greg Wright says he's more than happy to give youth a chance to shine after Himley lost the services of star batsman Tom Kohler-Cadmore.

Kohler-Cadmore has now joined Yorkshire on a three-year-deal after being released by Worcestershire last week.

The move north for the former Malvern College pupil also means he'll be no longer available to turn out for Himley in the Birmingham and District League Division One.

However, Wright thinks the unexpected move could open the door for one of the club's younger batsmen to show their potential this season.

Chad Brandrick in particular will benefit from extra game time as the campaign progresses. The change could also see Callum Lea handed more first team opportunities as well.

Wright said: "Himley is a club that wants to develop young players and we're happy to give them the opportunity.

"Chad Brandrick already stepped in when Tom wasn't available and he should now get a few more chances.

"While we're never happy to lose a player of Tom's ability it does mean that someone else will have the opportunity in the side."

Meanwhile, Himley ended with a losing draw from their rain-affected clash at home to Bridgnorth on Saturday.

The home side struggled after being put into bat by their visitors. A slow run-rate and the fall of wickets at regular intervals made it a tough task for the home side.

Opener Wright top scored with 44 as Himley were bowled out for 163 in the 52nd over.

In reply, Bridgnorth were 127-3 in the 31st over when rain halted play.

Wright added: "We needed the top order to go on and get a big score. This week it was me who didn't go on after getting in when we really needed those extra 70 runs or so.

"It was an odd day overall and an important toss to win after the rain we had in the week.

"It's funny to say, because we were at home, but I think the pitch probably suited their slower bowlers more. We like to hit the deck harder but the pitch was dead and we struggled at times.

"Our score was also under-par and I think we're still struggling for that consistency.

"We don't really know which team will turn up each week, which is something that needs to change. We do tend to make life hard for ourselves."

Mid-table Himley will hope for an improved showing when they go to league leaders Shifnal this Saturday (noon start).

"It's going to be a tough trip for us but one we can look forward to if we can produce our best cricket."
