TIVIDALE boss Dave King has backed his players to hit the ground running when the new season kicks into action this weekend.

Tivi will start the new campaign by welcoming Highgate United to the Beeches for an FA Cup clash on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

That will be followed by their first West Midlands Premier League contest at local rivals Dudley Town next Wednesday (7.45pm).

King has been pleased with how pre-season has progressed and has backed his players to be ready for the hectic start.

Dale ended their preparations with a 1-1 draw against AFC Wulfrunians last Saturday.

He said: "It was a good work out and just what we needed to make sure we're ready for the season.

"I have been able to add some experience and our fitness looks really good this year as well. It has also been good that I haven't completely had to rebuild the squad like last season.

"I think that all means we can start quickly, which we have to do."

King will finalise his squad by completing the signing of goalkeeper Ryan Cheshire this week.

The former Strafford stopper will bring much-needed experience to the goalkeeping department despite having 12 months away from the game.
