CAPTAIN Greg Wright hailed experienced all-rounder Chris Boroughs after his five-wicket haul kept Himley's promotion push well on track.

Himley bagged a big win at Leamington last Saturday to move into the top two of Birmingham and District League Division One.

Boroughs shone on a tricky surface for batting to claim five-wickets for just 25 runs after Wright had won the toss and put the hosts in.

The support of fellow bowlers Jamie Turner (3-23) and Stuart Wedge (2-8) helped Himley bowl out their opponents for just 77.

Himley struggled in reply but did enough to reach their target to pick up more vital points.

Wright said: "The surface was made for him (Boroughs) and he took full advantage.

"He has had a fantastic July and that has coincided with our results.

"He's an experienced performer and didn't have the luck he deserved at the start of the season but he kept going has done brilliantly."

Wright was pleased with the win but admits his side won't be distracted by talk of promotion with eight games still to play this season.

He added: "It was a no-brainer to bowl first and we bowled in some really good areas and got the rewards.

"The pitch didn't change much and we had difficulty as well. We want the lads to go out and impose themselves and play shots but that can just be a bit perilous on that sort of pitch.

"But we saw it home nicely in the end and have now put a few results together now.

"It can all change very quickly at the top. It's so tightly packed that you can drop out of it as quickly as you got in there. We're not talking about promotion, it'd just be a distraction. We'll look no further ahead than the next couple of games."

Himley will look to continue their fine form when they welcome Smethwick to Stourbridge Road this Saturday (noon start).

They will be without young bowler Adam Finch for the next fortnight after his call-up to the England under-19 one-day side.
