MATT Clarke put in another strong showing to come second in the Worcester St Johns CC Road Race.

On a day that was windy, it was surprising that the 11 man break went so early leaving the field behind with about 50 miles to go.

Although the peloton finished fast, closing the gap quickly, the escapees managed to hold them off.

Clarke gave it everything on the final climb of the day putting himself in a position to contest the downhill finish and came in with a fine second place to add to his previous wins this season.

Elsewhere, Jack Stanton-Warren came 22nd in the Ryedale GP Premier Calendar race in Yorkshire on Sunday. Competing against the cream of UK professionals, he made it into an elite front group of 23 that contested the victory in the tough 100-mile event.

In the finish sprint, Stanton-Warren was unlucky to be boxed in by other riders meaning he was unable to unleash his best effort but still finished just 15 seconds behind the winner Ollie Wood of Team Wiggins and an eight-rider split.
