HOMETOWN favourite Les Byfield and Brad Foster will undertake six-rounders when professional boxing returns to the Venue in Dudley.

The two prospects share top billing at the High Street venue on Friday, October 20 on the show titled ‘Knocked for Six,’ writes Craig Birch.

It will mark Byfield’s first step up from four rounds and Foster’s return to the ring for a third straight six-rounder.

Netherton’s Byfield is again set to take on long-haul campaigner Andy Harris, after a first meeting between the two super featherweights was postponed.

‘The Minefield’ has been out of action for three months waiting to take on the 35-year-old veteran from Gloucestershire, who has 56 pro bouts under his belt.

Byfield is now coached by Jason Astley, a security officer for Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren, and scored his first TKO last time out at the Venue.

He removed Russell Midgley in the third, with a relentless barrage of punches in the ropes, to secure an early finish.

The former unlicensed campaigner, aged 30, has rebuilt well after losing his paid debut on points and hasn’t dropped a round in seven straight successes since.

Foster, from Lichfield, is signed to Warren’s camp on a promotional deal and will next box again just two days shy of the end of his teenage years.

The 19-year-old, who turns 20 on October 22, is still unbeaten in seven outings after a draw with Brett Fidoe on June 24. He’s won six times, with a first round TKO in one victory.

The nine-time former world amateur kickboxing champion, who has been dubbed ‘the Blade,’ campaigned at four weights before taking up the noble art.

Birmingham’s Kane Baker and Walsall’s Shaun Cooper will also occupy the home corner for four-round contests, with further bouts still to be added.

Baker is determined to bounce back from his first defeat, after deciding to box on in the wake of his fight with Conor Benn.

The 27-year-old welterweight went down by second round TKO to the son of former world champion Nigel at York Hall in London on September 1, with the Sky Sports cameras rolling live.

The game Brummie, from Bartley Green, considering calling time on his career but instead decided wants to rebuild after four previous points victories.

Cooper is another preparing to lace on the gloves after a three-month absence, with an unbeaten start to paid life in the bag.

The 20-year-old lightweight, who is trained by Peter Hickenbottom and managed by Jon Pegg, has outpointed Qasim Hussain and Luke Fash so far.

The Walsall Wood Boxing Club graduate competed in 43 unpaid contests and won four area titles in England Boxing competition, reaching a Schools Championship national semi-final.

Tickets, priced at £35 and £50 ringside with waitress service, are available now by calling 07976 283 157. Alternatively, contact any of the boxers in the home corner on Facebook.
