FRESH from their medal haul at The School Games for England at Loughborough University, four former Redhill School pupils have been selected to represent England at the NEVZA Championships to be held in Ikast, Denmark.

David Hodson, James Ledbury, Harrison Martin-Lawes and Andrew Pearson are on their way.

They travel to Denmark from October 16 to 20 for the North European Zone championships.

It's a real step up for the boys as they now face the prospect of playing the full time athletes of Sweden, Finland and Norway as well as hosts Denmark, Iceland,Greenland and the Faroe Isles.

Having been introduced to the sport at Redhill School, the boys progressed to Redhill Stourbridge VC and the West Midlands Regional Squads.

Now playing National League for Black Country Volleyball Club, they, and another younger school pupil, Tyler White, played in the School games at Loughborough last month. Each gained six England caps, beating in the process representative teams from Scotland, Ireland and Wales.

Peter Bragg, chairman and founder of the club, said: "What an honour for the club and what a fantastic achievement by the boys. In 18 years of volleyball being developed at Redhill. This has been the most individually talented group of players the school to club link has produced so far. This is the catalyst for the club to move on more strongly into the future especially when allied to the seniors' victory in the National Shield last season.”
