HALESOWEN Town have launched an appeal to find its players who were part on the successful FA Vase teams of the 1980s.

During the home game with Altrincham on March 24, club chairman Karen Brookes will host an event for all of the players who were part of the 1983, 1985 or 1986 squads.

The winning captain of those sides, John Woodhouse, who lifted the trophy at Wembley in both 1985 and 1986, is attempting to gather as many former Yeltz players for the reunion.

President Colin Brookes said: “We’re hoping to get as many of our former players to The Grove next weekend because we fell it will be a great way of marking 35 years since our 1985 win against Fleetwood.

“We’re going to put on a bit of a do for them and we’ll also bring them out onto the pitch at half-time so the fans can show their appreciation for what they achieved.

“We’re still in contact with a couple of players locally, but John is trying to track down as many players as he can.

“History is a big part of Halesowen Town and we hope all of our fans will come back to the club next weekend to celebrate.”

Halesowen reached the vase final for the first time in 1983, losing out 1-0 to VS Rugby, but the Black Country side were back at Wembley two seasons later, claiming their first victory.

Yeltz followed up the 3-1 win against Fleetwood with a return to the home of football the following year, retaining the cup by beating Southall 3-0.

Players who were part of the FA Vase squads and would like to be part of the reunion should call John on 01384 633976.
