GARY Hackett has underlined his determination to stay in charge of Stourbridge next season.

The Glassboys' boss had been rumoured to be leaving the War Memorial Ground in the summer, with Bromsgrove Sporting mentioned as a possible destination.

However, Hackett has been quick to rule out any link to the Rouslers or a move away from Amblecote.

Sporting chairman Mike Burke also answered the rumours this week by throwing his support behind current manager Brendan Kelly.

Hackett said: "I'm not sure where all the rumours started but I can categorically say I've not spoken to anyone from Bromsgrove Sporting.

"I moved into league football from Bromsgrove and they are a club I always look out for but they have a good young manager there now."

"I'm not looking to move on and that's not how I work. The people at Stourbridge would be the first to know if that was the case.

"I'm very much planning to be here next season and will sit down with Andy (Pountney, chairman) like we always do and start discussing how to move forwards.

"Yes, it's been a difficult season but there is a lot to look forward to."

Stourbridge, meanwhile, ended their league season by beating Warrington 2-1 at home last Saturday.

Goals from player of the season Leon Broadhurst and striker Luke Benbow saw them sign off with a win.

They are now preparing to face Hednesford in the Birmingham Senior Cup Final at Birmingham City's St Andrew's Stadium next Tuesday (May 8) (7.45pm).

Hackett said: "It's a big game and hopefully the club's support can turn out in force like they always do.

"It's a chance for fans to see their club playing at a Championship stadium which is something that doesn't happen too often.

"We'll be doing everything we can to try and end the season with some silverware for them. It's an occasion to look forward to."

On the Warrington win, he added: "We've got to be very pleased that we ended the league season with a win, especially against a side that had something to play for.

"If we could have turned a few of our draws over the last couple of weeks into wins then it could have made things a lot more interesting. That's has been the big frustration.

"But it's good to go into the cup final on the back of a win."

Wolves loanee Nicu Carnat will be cup tied for the final, which will also be goalkeeper Matt Gould's last game for the club.

Gould has decided to move on after just over two years at the club.

Hackett was full of praise for the stopper, adding: "He's ultra professional on the pitch and one heck of a nice guy off the pitch. His attention to detail and work ethic is fantastic.

"He'll be tough to replace but we wish him well and hope he can realise his dream to be a professional goalkeeper again."

Defender Darryl Westlake and youth team prospect Jake Evans have been the first names to commit to the club for next season.
