DK 81 Syston 19
9:12am Monday 16th April 2012 in Dudley Kingswinford RFC
DUDLEY Kingswinford passed the 1,000 points for the season tally with a 12 try drubbing of Syston.
Four first half scores gave the hosts a comfortable lead and they ran riot after the break, scoring seven times in 17 minutes to blow away the visitors.
The Leicester side had provided stern opposition back in December at their Barkby Road ground but on this occasion were well beaten.
DK made several changes from the side that ran Rugby Lions so close a fortnight ago. Player coaches Jon Higgins and Pete Knight took a turn on the bench and Gareth Bown was at fly half, while Jon Tideswell and Ian Langford returned to the back row after injury.
Skipper Ollie Shakespeare came back into the second row for the unavailable Ed Parry and Tom Weaver replaced Bown in the centre. Danny Richards joined Jon Higgins and Pete Knight on the bench.
A Bown penalty put DK three up after just four minutes after the visitors were caught offside.
The first try arrived on six minutes, Jordan Brookes darting over following a lineout. Brookes then set up Duncan Chance to scamper 45 metres and put the hosts 15-0 up soon after.
Syston were very much on the back foot but a loose pass from Langford allowed centre Alan Lockington to race away and reduce the deficit, with Ian Smith adding the conversion.
But DK hit back strongly and after several rucks Matt Farrington went over for try number three. More heavy pressure saw Stefan Shillingford bulldoze his way through the visiting defence for the bonus point try before the break.
It took DK five minutes of the second half to add a fifth try which came from another long Chance run.
Syston made the score 36-14 soon after when Ian Smith added another interception try but this was the last bit of luck the visitors had as DK ran riot.
Jon Tideswell started the ball rolling when he picked up from a scrum and went over. The next try was a superb inidividual effort from Tui Asi Pito who stole a lineout and forced his way over.
Langford and Farrington combined to put Stefan Thorp in, with Tideswell setting up Shillingford for his second of the afternoon.
Things got worse for the visitors when winger Warren Coles was yellow carded for a late tackle on the rampaging Matt Farrington and after 64 minutes a strong DK rolling maul saw Shaun Griffiths over for the tenth home try of the day.
Matt Farrington then got a richly deserved try on 66 minutes when a superb cross field move was finished off by the winger in the corner.
A minute later, another sweeping cross field three quarter move culminated in Shillingford crossing for his hat-trick and DK’s 12th and final try.
Syston had the last word when Ollie Shakespeare was yellow carded in stoppage time and a quick tap penalty saw flanker Joe Knowles dive over the DK line for an unconverted consolation.
