Fitz fires Hales back into winning ways
12:17pm Thursday 17th October 2013 in Old Halesonians
Old Halesonians hit back from last week’s shock defeat to Sandbach by pulling off an excellent 28-12 success at Scunthorpe.
Hales struggled to get the three hour journey out of their legs as a big and aggressive Scunthorpe side made the early running and went 3-0 ahead with a penalty.
Chris Hooper then swopped further penalties with Scunthorpe before centre Andy Holloway gave Hales the lead with a a breakaway try.
Hales were boosted further by the late arrival of number eight Mark Evans, who had been delayed owing to his commitments at King Edwards School.
His introduction saw Hales start to control matters and together wiith Tom Jordan and Pete Fitzgerald, they led from the front.
Hales set up a series of driving mauls which led to a great try from Fitzgerald which Hooper converted to lead 15-6.
Scunthorpe responded with two penalties while Andy Holloway was shown a yellow card for obstruction.
Another Hooper penalty was followed by spectacular tries from winger Luke Smith and the ever present Fitzgerald, which also provided a bonus point.
