Mitch wary of Boars threat
1:00pm Thursday 17th January 2013 in Stourbridge RFC
NEIL Mitchell says Stourbridge RFC will give Bromsgrove maximum respect in this Saturday’s derby clash.
The Saxons welcome the Boars to Stourton Park looking to record their 19th win in an already record-breaking season.
With Bromsgrove in the lower half of the National Two North table, few would bet against Mitchell’s men.
But Stour’s director of rugby says there is no chance of the visitors being taken lightly.
He said: “We have already played Bromsgrove once this season, we know what they are about.
“I’ve watched the DVD of their game last week, they will be treated the same as any other team.
“It’s a derby game so of course there will be an extra edge.
“For me, Bromsgrove fall into the same category of teams like Sheffield Tigers, Caldy, Luctonians and Preston Grasshoppers.
“They are all in the doldrums in the middle of the table, they aren’t going up and they aren’t going down.
“What they have got to do is try and take a scalp and we are definitely a scalp.
“In some respects it makes them the most dangerous teams as they have nothing to lose.”
Stour’s lead over second-placed Hull Ionians remains at 19 points after their 45-15 win at bottom side Stockport last weekend.
Though the hosts enjoyed plenty of territory and possession, the Saxons were able to soak it up and then proved clinical when they got their own chances.
Mitchell said: “They did attack the line but it was similar to the Luctonians game earlier this season, when they had almost 80 per cent possession and we ended up winning by 40 points.
“They sent a lot of big runners up and it was an open field game, which is different to the close contact games you usually see in the National Leagues.
“They went hell for leather and were quite incisive but as soon as they got to the five-metre line they messed up.
“That’s the kind of thing which happens when you are bottom.”
He added: “The instructions to our players do not change week on week.
“The first aim is to win the game and the second is to get the bonus point.
“In some ways the latter part is the only pressure. ”
