STOURBRIDGE RFC suffered a second half collapse at Cambridge, squandering an interval lead as they slipped to their seventh successive away defeat.

Stour had opened the scoring in the second minute. Nathan Bressington’s sprint up the right touchline and Peter White’s huge pass created an opening for Ali Bressington who squeezed in the left corner but could not add the conversion.

Nathan got the second himself, centre Ben Barkley split the defence and found Bressington on his shoulder to finish the move under the posts to leave his brother a simple kick for a 12-0 lead.

Stour could not keep it up though and allowed Tom Jubb to crash over from close range soon after to get Cambridge on the scoreboard.

The home side drew level after 26 minutes as a poor clearance kick from Peter White found several of his own teammates offside and from the resulting penalty, Cambridge number 8 Stephen Hipwell crashed over.

The Saxons regained the lead on the stroke of half-time when Drew Harper high-stepped his way through the defence to touch down.

Cambridge came out fired up after the interval and a break by inside centre Albert Portsmouth created an opening for Jubb to canter over for his second.

The home side were devastating on the counter as fly-half Elliot Bale was allowed too much space and he found Jubb who completed his hat-trick in fine style running in from half way.

Things got worse for Stour when they conceded two penalties in quick succession that allowed Cambridge great field position from which centre Will Lawson was able to score their fifth try.

The Saxons briefly threatened a revival as Tom Jarvis found Jordan Page to earn them the try bonus point but it was Cambridge who had the last word.

More Stour penalties allowed them to march downfield once more and this time it was prop Ben Hunter who burrowed over from close range.
