IN-FORM wing Josh Adams admits the “fiery” training sessions at Worcester Warriors are helping to get the best out of him.

The Welshman added to his try-count with a first-half brace in Warriors’ 31-27 victory over Leicester Tigers at Welford Road last Saturday.

His double means he has now racked up 12 tries in his last 18 appearances as he continues to cement his name on Warriors’ team sheet.

But with Dean Hammond and Perry Humphreys also in try-scoring form, the 22-year-old insists he cannot afford to let up in training.

“I am happy I have been able to feature as much as I have in the Premiership side,” Adams said.

“You can see the competition in the back three is extremely tough.

Deano is running in tries for fun at the moment and Perry is also a very good player, so I have been happy to get the games that I have and I know the ball is in my court.

“I have got to keep playing well and keep putting my hand for selection for the following week.

“Obviously the lads want to make a statement and say ‘I want to be in contention for this week’s game’.

“Sometimes it can get quite fiery but that’s a good thing as that gets the best out of us.”

Hammond has been forced to bide his time on the bench in recent weeks despite scoring six tries in eight games.

Humphreys, who has crossed the whitewash three times this term, will also be aiming to return to the starting 15 after failing to be named in Worcester’s matchday 23 for their last two outings.

But Adams said he welcomed the competition as he looks to retain his shirt for Warriors’ league clash with Sale Sharks at Sixways on Friday (7.45pm).

“It is great to see Deano doing so well as it is great for the team, most importantly,” Adams said.

“If it wasn’t for him in some games we might be 10 or 15 points off where we actually were at the end.

“There is no internal competition but it’s nice if you can score more tries than your opposite winger.”

Adams stressed his form was also down to the fact Warriors were now “clicking” thanks to the return of scrum-half Francois Hougaard and centre Ryan Mills.

Since the influential duo returned from injury, Warriors have secured back-to-back wins.

“I think we are starting to click within our shape a little bit better now,” Adams said.

“Milly and Francois coming back has obviously added to that.

“They have a lot of experience and can help us get through those times where momentum is going against us.”
