FLANKER Sam Lewis insists second-from-bottom Worcester Warriors are looking up the table ahead of Saturday's Aviva Premiership clash with Gloucester (3pm).

And he is looking to “put on a show” at Sixways as they bid to “chase down” struggling Northampton Saints.

Warriors are 12 points clear of the drop zone following a memorable 6-5 victory over leaders Exeter Chiefs at Sandy Park last weekend.

They are also only three points behind Northampton who face a relegation-threatened London Irish side desperate to keep their survival hopes alive at Franklin’s Gardens on Saturday.

“We are looking up the league now,” Lewis said.

“Northampton are just above us and hopefully if results go our way we can chase them down.”

It is not the first time Warriors have had 10th place within their sights as they closed the gap on Sale Sharks after back-to-back wins over Northampton and Leicester Tigers in November.

But they then produced a disappointing display, losing 18-14 to 14-man Sale and Lewis said he did not want to see a repeat of that performance.

“We want to finish the season off well and keep results like the one against Exeter coming in,” Lewis said.

“We put in a good performance at Leicester but we didn’t back it up the following week.

“Hopefully we can do that this time. Training has gone well and we are back at home so hopefully the crowd can get behind us and we can do the same again.”

In their previous meeting Gloucester edged a tense contest 24-19 at Kingsholm as they denied Warriors by the try-line at the death.

Last season the two sides fought out a thrilling 23-23 draw at Sixways in September 2016, but Gloucester have been in fine form this term.

Johan Ackermann’s men sit in fourth position and defeated Leicester 24-17 last Saturday to lift their title ambitions.

And Lewis said he was wary of their rivals' “dangerous” back-line.

“Gloucester play with speed which I have been really impressed with,” Lewis said.

“Their backs are quite dangerous and play with a lot of tempo so we will just have to be up for it defensively like were at Exeter.

“I am expecting a fast game so that will be really tough to manage. I know a few of the Gloucester boys who live in Cheltenham and I know it will be a big test for us.

“Gloucester are going really well. But they will be coming down here and I think it will be a massive test for them. Hopefully we can put on a show for our supporters.”
