FLY-HALF Jamie Shillcock is determined to show he is the main man at Worcester Warriors as he looks to “lead” his side to victory over Leicester Tigers tomorrow (3pm).

The promising 20-year-old will wear the number 10 shirt for the fourth Aviva Premiership game in a row when Warriors tackle their Midlands rivals at Sixways.

Director of rugby Alan Solomons has snapped up Australian ace Jono Lance, 27, for next season in a bid to add experience at stand-off.

And Warriors’ chief is looking to secure the services of Scotland international Duncan Weir this term to provide competition for Shillcock and Sam Olver.

But Shillcock expressed his desire to keep hold of the shirt and play an “influential” role in guiding second-from-bottom Worcester to safety.

“I want to try to be a bit more of a leader within the squad,” said Shillcock whose side are 12 points clear of the drop zone.

“I want to make sure I am the one on the pitch that’s making decisions and leading the boys around the park with the help of guys around me and being that main key figure (in the side).”

Shillcock has made 15 appearances this season, one more than he made in the entire 2016-17 campaign as he continues to gain the trust of boss Solomons.

The former Warwick School student hit the headlines in 2015 when he made his debut as a 17-year-old in the Championship play-offs.

“I am really enjoying it,” Shillcock said.

“I am getting a lot of faith from the coaches so it is really encouraging to be able to go out there knowing that whatever I do there will be people there backing me.

“Having those experienced guys around me like Francois Hougaard and Ryan Mills also helps me out a lot.

“Hopefully I will get this run of games under my belt and try to establish that shirt as mine.

“I want to keep progressing as a person that is in the team all the time and someone that influences what is going on, like a 10 should, so that is what I am trying to work towards.”

Shillcock is now preparing to come up against a “physical” Leicester side who he believes will look to “bully” Warriors.

But the academy graduate is confident he will be able to front up defensively as Worcester look to beat Tigers for the second time this season.

“I think I have proved to everyone that I am able to hold my own there,” Shillcock said.

“My defence has been bang on in these past two games.

“I have been able to front up and deal with whatever they throw at me.

“I may be inexperienced in age and with fewer caps but I feel I am able to hold my own whatever comes my way.”

Shillcock added: “They are a big, physical side and we know they are going to come direct and try to bully us — the typical Leicester way.

“But we will try to confront that.”
