BEN Cox wants to break into the Worcestershire top six as he set his sights on another consistent season with the bat.

The Worcestershire wicketkeeper was the County's second highest scorer in the Championship last summer with 778 runs at an average of 37.05, scoring one hundred and five fifties.

He managed his success - only Tom Fell scored more Championship runs - despite sometimes having to bat with and manage the tail.

Now Cox has his sights on averaging 40 and above and is keen to climb above number seven in the batting order.

He said: "In my opinion you can always get better. I think the big word for me is consistency again.

"I've set the standard now. I averaged close to 38 and now is the time to go to 40 and above.

"To try and set targets, it is hard down at number seven because there are times when you have to bat with the tail and try and manage that.

"To do that last year, was extremely pleasing."

Cox admitted: "I'm desperate to get up the order. It just shows we've got competition for places in the top six if I'm batting well at seven and can't get into the top six.

"It means everyone is scoring runs so that can only be good for the team. I'm just going to focus on my role and go from there.

"I've batted in the top six before and I made my first hundred batting at number six. It just gives you that little extra time out in the middle with another batter.

"But I'm just going to try and focus on my role at number seven, chip in with what I can and do the best I can for the team."
