WORCESTERSHIRE academy player Josh Haynes cracked a century from just 36 balls as Malvern College lifted the Chesterton Cup.

The 17-year-old is the son of former Worcestershire all-rounder Gavin Haynes and he also took 3-23 as Malvern triumphed by six wickets over Wrekin College in the 20-over competition.

He is the elder of the two Haynes brothers - along with Jack - who are currently part of Worcestershire's academy intake for 2015-2016.

He scored his maiden century for the Second Eleven against Somerset Seconds at Taunton Vale in April.

Josh helped Malvern to restrict their opponents to 146-8 with his slow left-arm spin and then produced a power-hitting display.

He hammered eight sixes and 10 fours - a total of 88 in boundaries - in making exactly 100 off 36 balls.

Josh was given a helping hand by brother Jack with the opening pair plundering 103 off just 6.4 overs before the latter was out for 26.

Only 16 runs were required for victory when Josh was finally second out at 131 in the 11th over.

Malvern College eventually reached 149-4 in 14 overs to win with 36 balls to spare.
