COACH Kevin Sharp says Worcestershire spinner Ben Twohig is maturing into "a fine all-round cricketer" as he prepares to again captain the Seconds in their T20 double header against Northamptonshire at Wantage Road today.

Twohig returned his third five-wicket haul for the Seconds in Championship cricket during last week's draw with Derbyshire at Stourbridge and also batted for more than 100 minutes in making 21 not out to help ensure the game was saved.

The former Malvern College pupil is skippering the Seconds in the T20 format this summer having had his first taste of the role in the two matches with MCC Young Cricketers at Merchant Taylor's School.

He will be returning to Wantage Road after being 12th man for the Specsavers County Championship match three weeks ago.

Sharp said: "Ben is really maturing now, he is maturing as a cricketer, and turning into a fine all-round cricketer, bat, ball and fielding.

"He bowled beautifully against Derbyshire and he managed to get some spin and it was good to see. He is developing nicely really.

"He is captaining the T20 side and it is a good opportunity for him.

"I like working with the lads, helping them sort of come through from the academy into the second team and then the first team. It is great to see them develop.

"It is great to give them opportunities. That is what the second team is about, giving them opportunities to grow and develop and push for a first team place."

Paceman Charlie Morris will make his comeback from an ankle problem at Northampton.

He is also earmarked to play in the Second Eleven Championship match between the two counties later in the week.

Sharp confirmed: "Charlie will be coming to play with this. He will probably just play one of the T20s and then the three-day match.

"He might be limited to how many overs he can bowl but that will depend on how his ankle is feeling really."

Keeper Alex Milton is available for the remainder of the summer after a successful first half of the 2017 season with Cardiff MCCU and Cardiff CC.

Milton averaged 98 for Cardiff CC with 482 runs in seven innings including three hundreds and two fifties.

He also scored centuries for Cardiff MCCU against two of the stronger university sides in Loughborough MCCU and Leeds-Bradford MCCU.

Sharp said: "He is a fine cricketer. It doesn't surprise me he has done as well as he has. I'm sure he will come back to us and continue performing.

"He is back full-time with us from next week. He will be playing at Northampton  and will be pretty much around for the rest of the season."

Tom Fell and Jack Shantry, who were part of the senior side in Royal London One-Day Cup action against Surrey, are named in the squad.

The Seconds are heading into a concentrated period of cricket during the next few weeks.

Sharp said: "We've got three weeks of full-on cricket. We've got Northants, Durham and Leicestershire, with T20s on the Monday followed by the three-dayers. They are going to be busy.

"It is enormously challenging to play two T20s in a day and then start a three-dayer the next morning.

"You can't do much about it. You can't just go somewhere to play a T20. From a financial point of view, you've got to tighten things (the schedule) up."

Sharp changed the batting order around for the opening two T20s v MCC YC and it is a policy that may be continued.

He said: "In the batting order we are going to share it around a little bit and give opportunities for lads to bat higher up the order and getting used to batting in different places in T20 cricket.

"Sometimes that is what you have to do. Batters will get used to batting in different positions because when they play first team cricket they could be batting anywhere.

"That's the idea, to give those experiences, to bat in different positions, and get some experience doing that."
