WORCESTERSHIRE'S Josh Tongue and George Scrimshaw are among five promising fast bowlers who have been selected for this winter’s ECB Pace Programme.

The initiative will be led by Kevin Shine, the ECB’s lead fast-bowling coach, with support from Worcestershire assistant coach Matt Mason.

With Dillon Pennington and Adam Finch in the Young Lions squad and Joe Clarke selected for an England Lions winter training camp, Tongue and Scrimshaw have added to the success for the County's young crop.

They are joined on the programme by Tom Barber of Middlesex, Paul Walter of Essex, and Leicestershire’s Zak Chappell.

The more experienced Reece Topley and Jamie Overton will head along as part of their return following back injuries.

Tongue had a first XI debut season to remember as the academy product played in every County Championship Division Two match for the champions before signing a new four-year contract until the end of the 2021 season.

Scrimshaw made his senior breakthrough in the T20 Blast.

As well as warm-weather training in South Africa in January and February next year, the bowlers will also make two trips to the Desert Springs resort in south Spain in December and February.

The programme will otherwise be based at Loughborough's Performance Centre from late October until January.
