SKIPPER Joe Leach is looking forward to working with new head coach Kevin Sharp and trying to establish Worcestershire in Specsavers County Championship Division One.

Sharp has been promoted from batting-second XI coach as part of a restructure which sees Alan Richardson return as bowling coach and Matt Mason reverting to second XI coach.

Leach is excited about what the future may hold for the County and forging a successful partnership with ex-Yorkshire coach Sharp.

He said: “Kevin brings a wealth of experience to the role and he has immense respect throughout the game.

“The fact the England Test captain (Joe Root) always speaks so highly of Kevin and the help he has been to his career says it all really.

“He has been a great help to the lads here as well and I’m looking forward to working with him in what hopefully is the start of an exciting new era for the club.

“I’ve always had great faith in the ability of the players here to compete in Division One and Kevin’s depth of knowledge can only add to that.

“Alan is also a very shrewd appointment. He was fantastic here as a player at the back-end of his career and was voted one of the Wisden cricketers of the year.

“But he is also highly regarded and respected as a coach in the game and brings the experience of already working at Division One level with Warwickshire for the past few years.

“With Mase using his know-how with the second XI and the crop of young talent flourishing there, we have a solid foundation for the challenges ahead which I think we are more than capable of embracing.”
