Referenced in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Dudelei, the borough of Dudley is now proudly referred to as the ‘historic capital of the Black Country’.

Dudley borough has a past to be proud of at the heart of the industrial revolution. But whilst proud of the past, it is keen to look forwards and today, at Dudley Council, it is working with partners across the borough to deliver our borough vision, ‘forging a future for all’.

Dudley Council serves more than 319,000 residents and manages a net budget of £220 million. The council employs more than 8,000 members of staff, many of which live within the borough.

The council is constantly striving to improve the way that it delivers services to meet the needs of local people and is aligned to growing the economy and creating jobs, creating a cleaner and greener place, and supporting communities to be stronger and safer.

The council’s role is very important in helping to bring investment to key areas as well as bringing the right people together to make this happen, building on the borough’s proud past but forging an exciting future for all.

Tremendous progress is also being made around regenerating the borough with a huge pipeline of activity planned in the journey to 2030, led by the development of the £450million Midland Metro link into and through Dudley borough. This significant funding is through the council’s active role as a member of the West Midlands Combined Authority.

The council is also finely balanced politically and has consequently developed very strong cross party working arrangements. The council operates a cabinet and leader system of governance with a leader and nine cabinet members.

With a new commercial division helping to support council finances and a transformation programme which has overseen the introduction of a new digital platform and website to meet the needs of our customers, the foundations are in place for the next stage of our journey.
