IT may sound crazy to be donning festive jumpers, getting skis and sledges out of the attic and dreaming of a White Christmas in the middle of a heatwave, but that is exactly what Cradley Heath Amateur Operatic Society have been up to.

With rehearsals for the perennial yuletide favourite well under way, CHAOS thought it would be good to get into the festive mood for the show – a stage version of the Bing Crosby classic film ‘White Christmas’ – which will be staged at Stourbridge Town Hall later this year.

The fun-packed version brings the story to life of two ex-soldiers supporting their retired general at his ski lodge, finding love along the way with the two Sisters from the famous song of that name, with bright tap-dance routines and the sentimentality and cosiness of the title song which everyone knows.

As well as White Christmas and Sisters, the show features a dazzling musical score by Irving Berlin – including such classic songs as Blue Skies, Snow, I Love a Piano, Snow, How Deep is the Ocean and Count Your Blessings.

Group stalwart J. Paul Murdock said: “We promise an enjoyable evening’s entertainment with a festive family feeling of award-winning standards from the longest-established Amateur Operatic Society in the whole of the Black Country and the performing talents of the area.

“With the brilliant weather we have been having recently, what could be better than thinking of Snow, set against Blue Skies (get it?).”

Tickets for the show, which takes place between November 13 and 17, cost £14 and £17 and are available from the box office by calling 0121 585 7380, or from any member of the society.
