OLDBURY Rep has announced the productions which will form its new season of shows.

The company finished its 2017-18 season on a high note with the near sell out production of ‘The Vicar of Dibley’, which helped bring the overall attendance for the year to 80 per cent.

But the new season gets underway on September 8 with ‘Conjugal Rites’ by Roger Hall. A comedy about a married couple preparing to celebrate their 21st wedding anniversary, but not all is as cosy as it appears, will run until September 15.

Between November 3 and 10, the Rep will make their way to Craggy Island to follow the misadventures of Father Ted Crilley, Father Dougal McQuire and Father Jack Hackett – not forgetting Mrs Doyle and her tea pot – in the cult classic comedy ‘Father Ted’.

January sees the return of the ever popular traditional panto - with 2019’s offering being ‘Robin Hood’, before the March production of ‘Dangerous Obsession’ by Eric Chappell.

This is followed by ‘Travels with my Aunt’ based on the popular novel by Graham Greene in May, while the season finale of Stephen Sondheim’s ‘Sweeney Todd’ takes place in July.

In addition to the Main House shows, two productions will be performed in the Studio Theatre.

Acclaimed choir ‘Enchant’ and members of Oldbury Rep will appear in ‘Christmas Wassail’ on December 14 and 15, and in complete contrast, from April 8 to 13 the Rep will present ‘The Long Road’ by Sheila Stephenson.

The regular Friday Film screenings at the Rep’s own cinema – ‘The Screen on the Green’ – also continue into the new season, with dates and titles to be announced soon.
