SUGAR Mama is a young band from Worcestershire whose brand of blues rock has caught the attention of some big names.

Their musicianship plus on-stage energy has won over crowds at prestigious shows including the Isle of White Festival.

The Base Sessions team caught up with Sugar Mama backstage at the Upton Music Festival last August where they proved to be one of the hits of the bank holiday weekend music bonanza.

Sam Anderson, Scott Dolphin and Rob Smith have been together since the summer of 2009 and after playing pubs and clubs around their native Reddich spread their wings to play live around the UK.

The trio say they produce sound which can be a little rough around the edges but demonstrates their mutual musical understanding which makes every show spontaneous and unique.

Liz Aiken, from Blues Matters Magazine, said: "This is a young band that with the right breaks is destined to reach the very top" while Joseph Washbourn from Toploader added: “Wicked band. They made us feel old.”

Punters will be able to judge for themselves when Sugar Mama take the stage at the Catapult Club show on Friday February 21 at Birmingham’s O2 Academy 2.
