YOUNGSTERS from a Dudley primary school have paid tribute to their most famous pupil.

Priory Primary School pupils attended a special service at St Francis Church in Dudley remember footballer, Duncan Edwards, on the 55th anniversary of his death.

Duncan, who played for England and Manchester United, attended the Limes Road school from 1941 until 1948.

Paying tribute to the Busby Babe at the service on February 21, the pupils lit candles to represent each of the players who lost their lives in the Munich air disaster, as well as reading a poem.

Shannon Williams, a year 6 pupil, said: “I really enjoyed the service. It is amazing to think that such a talented footballer came from my school.

“The fact that Duncan Edwards attended the school makes children proud and excited. They aspire to be as successful as he was in all sorts of different ways.”

The event was also attended by relatives of Duncan Edwards as well as representatives from the football world.

Later in the evening a film and talk was held at Dudley Museum and Art Gallery hosted by Woodside historian Rose Cook, who has made a film honouring Duncan’s life.
