STAFF and pupils at a Sedgley secondary school have been showcasing their artistic flair through doodling all in the name of charity.

The High Arcal School took part in National Doodle Day to raise funds for Epilepsy Action, with the fundraiser led by its autistic pupils.

The teenagers, who attend the High Arcal Drive school’s specialist Autistic Spectrum Base fronted the project and encouraged their classmates and teachers to take part and donate to the cause, as well as highlighting information about epilepsy.

As well as taking part in the national competition, the school also held a staff competition with teachers’ artistic work put on display in the school foyer.

Sally Ordway, Assistant Lead Teacher, said: “Autistic Spectrum students find social interaction and communication very demanding. In order to help to combat this, staff encourage them to challenge themselves whilst empathising with others.

"It is important for our pupils to understand that their actions can impact on others in a highly positive way.

“National Doodle Day is a fantastic event for children to get involved in. It’s a great way for them to show their artistic side and help a great cause at the same time.”
