DUDLEY runners are being urged to jog onto the fundraising trail to help the borough's mayor raise charity cash.

Mayor of Dudley, Cllr Alan Finch, is swapping his chain for trainers to take on the ten kilometre section of The Great Black Country Road Run through Halesowen on Sunday September 22.

Hundreds of athletes including Team DB from the council will be running with the mayor's charities, White House Cancer Support, Dudley and Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, among those to benefit.

Councillor Alan Finch, Mayor of Dudley, said: “I’ve never done anything like this before but charity is something very close to my heart and I’m keen to raise as much money as possible."

Meanwhile the mayor's charities are already £1,000 better off after a donation form the borough's muslim community.

Cllr Finch paid a visit to Dudley Central Mosque during the recent month of Ramadan where the donation was handed over.

He said: “These are very worthwhile causes and as mayor I am committed to doing what I can to raise money for them.

“It is wonderful to see people sharing that vision and helping them continue the work they do, it shows that communities are all working together to help others.”

Mohammed Aurangzeb, chairman of Dudley Central Mosque, added: “The Muslim community donate through the year to many good causes and Ramadan sees increased generosity to the poor and those less fortunate than themselves."
