FOUR lucky explorer scouts from Dudley borough can look forward to the trip of a lifetime after being selected to represent the UK at the World Scout Jamboree in Japan.
The quartet were chosen after impressing at a special selection camp which took place near Cannock Wood last December.
All four - who comprise of Megan Paynter from Dudley, Harry Halford of Kingswinford and Netherton duo Kyra Pomfrett Jones and Leo Horton-Taylor, will all embark on a period of fund raising to help pay the £3,000 attendance fee - even though the Jamboree doesn't take place until 2015.
In total, 2,400 scouts and guides from across the UK will be attending the event which attracts a total of 30,000 from nearly every country in the world.
The four, who are aged between 14 and 17, will also spend time bonding with other explorer scouts from across the Black Country, building a sense of team work and togetherness.
They will also be expected to spend a three week period away from home in a different cultural setting along with developing skills needed to prepare for a life changing experience.
During their time in Japan they will visit the Peace Dome in Hiroshima on the 70th anniversary since dropping of the nuclear bomb.
Chief Scout Bear Grylis said: "Over the course of the Jamboree these young people will be able to meet people from around the world and take part in amazing adventures and experiences. They will have a great time in the run up to the event".
