A BABY in Lower Gornal needed firefighters to get into top gear for a rescue after he got locked in a car.
A crew from Dudley Fire Station was sent to Turner’s Green Lane at 9.38am today (Wednesday June 25) to release a two-week-old boy named Joseph.
Firefighters acted quickly by breaking a window to release Joseph as the temperature rose rapidly inside the vehicle in sunny weather.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service said: “We’re often called to release children who are locked in cars. On this occasion, the keys had been accidentally dropped inside. It was obvious that Joseph was just a bit too young to have been playing with the locks.
"We understand that children will sometimes play with car buttons, and appreciate that parents can be desperate to get them out.
“Ideally, we’d prefer people didn’t leave young children in their vehicles without an adult. Every such call we attend means resources are tied up and we can't attend genuine emergencies.”
