PEOPLE in Lower Gornal have been paying tribute to a tragic teenager who lost her battle with cancer.

Danni Burrows died on July 5 aged just 14 after being diagnosed with bone cancer in March.

Pupils at her former nursery and schools have been saying their final goodbyes and raising money for the Teenage Cancer Trust in her memory.

On July 11, youngsters from Happy Hours Day Nursery and The Straits Primary School donned yellow in memory of their former classmate, who loved bright colours.

Pupils at Ellowes Hall Sports College left floral tributes under a tree on the campus where popular student and keen dancer Danni was described by headteacher Andy Griffiths as “bright, bubbly and smiley.”

Hundreds of people from Lower Gornal gathered on fields near Danni’s home to release balloons with their messages to the brave teen.

Danni’s devastated family said they are too upset to speak publically but told the News they wanted to thank everyone who has shown support as they come to terms with her death.

Danni’s funeral will take place at Zoar Methodist Church, Lower Gornal, on Tuesday July 22 at 1.30pm and will be followed by a by private committal for family and close friends only.

People attending the funeral are asked to wear bright colours, especially purple, flowers and donations to Birmingham Children's Hospital are welcome.
