LEGIONS of Mancunians are set to descend on Dudley this weekend to pay homage to Manchester United legend Duncan Edwards.

FC United, the none-league club which was set up by Red Devils fans as an alternative to the Premier League giants, have been drawn against Willenhall’s Sporting Khalsa in the FA Cup.

Many of the fans are taking the short trip to Dudley to see the Busby Babe legend’s statue in Dudley town centre.

A spokesman for Sporting Khalsa confirmed the club had been pointing many of the 3,000 expected fans in the right direction.

He said: “ We know a lot of FCUM supporters are planning a pilgrimage to see Dudley and we tried to help them out with directions, especially as it's recently been moved!”

Earlier this month the statue of the legendary footballer, who died in the Munich air disaster in 1958, was moved to Castle Street to overlook the historic Dudley Castle.

In a service the statue was rededicated in front of family, dignitaries, Manchester United supporters and townsfolk.

The Mayor of Dudley Councillor Steve Waltho said: “Although so many years have gone by since Duncan died, he remains such a popular figure.

"We remain so proud of the fact that he came from Dudley and went on to achieve so much in his short life.”

FC United play Sporting Khalsa at the Aspray Arena, Noose Lane, Willenhall tomorrow (Saturday) at 3pm.
