I AM writing this letter after reading comments made by Councillor David Caunt along with some of your readers. They seem to be suggesting that Malcolm Davis lost his seat due to his anti-mosque campaign. I do not believe this to be the case. Mr Davis lost his seat because 548 of St James residents moved even further to the right supporting the BNP candidate. Had the BNP candidate not stood, I am sure Mr Davis would have retained his seat.
As for Mr Caunt's remarks claiming UKIP was a one-issue party, this may well be correct but it is the one-issue party. This may well be correct but it is the one issue Mr Caunt refuses to comment on. I attended a public forum meeting two months ago at Cedar Road priory it was an opportunity for residents to put questions to local councillors. An elderly lady who I was sitting with stood up and asked where the alternative site was, which My Caunt advised Mr Ahmed to look for after the Hall Street plans had been rejected. She was told that Mr Caunt would reply to her in person regarding this question. Two months later still no answer! If you are reading this Mr Caunt would you please write and tell the people of Dudley where this alternative site is!
