THE vitriolic attacks on Malcolm Davis by Sardar Pappu Singh and Abdul Rahman (both born and pure bred Englishmen, obviously) in the May 10 issue of the Dudley News shows their inability to grasp the irony of what actually happened at the May 3 local elections.

The candidate for the BNP received 548 votes. Malcolm Davis himself received 814 votes. And the Labour candidate, who seemed surprised herself that she had won, received 1,078 votes, a majority over Malcolm Davis of 264.

It's a reasonable assumption that, had there not been a BNP candidate, many of those who voted BNP would have instead voted for the only other anti-mosque candidate, Malcolm Davis.

They certainly would not have voted New Labour, Tory or Lib Dem in view of the way all of those parties have contributed to selling Dudley from underneath the people' as Malcolm Davis put it.

If there had not been a BNP candidate, it would only have required half of those who voted BNP to vote for Malcolm Davis instead and he would have won the ward again.

In other words Mr Singh and Mr Rahman, had it not been for the BNP, Malcolm Davies would almost certainly have been re-elected!

The biggest winner at the Dudley local elections was, of course, apathy, with over 60 per cent of the electorate not even bothering to vote.

That should be a worry to any true democrat, so it's not likely to worry any of the new or previously elected councillors is it?
