A WRITER wants to inspire the youth of Dudley with his short film about football superstar Duncan Edwards.

Marcus Distant hopes his film Duncan Edwards - The Boy Who Had It All, will show the focus and determination the talented player demonstrated throughout his short life.

The film will focus on the Manchester United star's childhood in Dudley instead of dwelling on his tragic death following the Munich air disaster in 1958.

"Duncan Edwards was such an inspirational, positive character," said scriptwriter Marcus, aged 28.

"He used to babysit my uncle and I've been told he'd babysit anyone's kids as long as they had a football.

"I grew up listening to stories about him."

He continued: "I want people to understand more about his childhood and upbringing and I want that to inspire the next generation of Dudley.

"This fictional short film will document the rise of the schoolboy prodigy from humble beginnings to the big stage at Manchester United."

The drama and theatre studies graduate, who found writing to be "therapeutic" during a time he was homeless and unemployed, is now trying to raise the funds to make his dream a reality.

Marcus is also looking for a cameraman, lighting and sound technician, runner and cast members of all ages to get involved in the project.
