A TRIBUTE to legendary Dudley football icon Duncan Edwards was launched at his old school.

Jim Cadman, of The Duncan Edwards Tribute, visited Priory Primary School, where the former Manchester United star attended between 1941 and 1947, to give a presentation to current pupils.

Children put on a display of work they had created in honour of Duncan while the talk from Mr Cadman, who is from Stourbridge, was based on a special print by illustrator Bob Bond that has been commissioned to celebrate his life and dreams of playing at Wembley.

Each of the pupils were later presented with a special print and biography photo card of on the life Duncan Edwards and detailing the football honours he achieved.

The aim of the visit was to inspire current pupils and show them they can follow in Duncan’s footsteps and achieve their dreams as well as keeping his memory alive in his hometown.

At the presentation, Priory head teacher Jill Craig said: “Our school is honoured to participate in the Duncan Edwards Tribute and it will benefit our children in many ways.”

This event is one of a series being arranged in the build up to February 21 next year – which will mark the 60th anniversary of the tragic Munich air disaster which claimed 21-year-old Duncan’s life along with many of his team mates.

This will culminate in a 60th anniversary dinner that will be held at The Copthorne Hotel as well as the publishing of a book ‘Black Country Boy to Red Devil’.

All the material used in the event at Priory Primary will form an ‘educational heritage package’ that will be made available to other schools in the Black Country.
