CONTROVERSIAL plans for an aggregate recycling centre in Stourbridge remain in limbo after councillors adjourned a meeting of Dudley’s Development Control Committee this week.
Objectors to the proposal on the old Helix International site on Engine Lane will now have to wait until the committee’s next meeting to find out if it will go ahead.
The scheme would use the western part of the former Helix site for the recycling of aggregate material, from an unauthorised site in Bott Lane which has no planning permission, which is the subject of a council enforcement notice.
But the plan has alarmed some local residents who fear the centre – which would break up bricks, concrete and rubble left over from construction work – will hit house prices and cause noise and dust nuisance.
Council planning officers had recommended councillors on the committee approve the application subject to conditions which include minimising dust emissions from the site, limiting the hours deliveries could be made and restricting the hours when machinery could be used.
The application, along with other agenda items, will now be discussed on May 29.
