CARING Roger Scriven couldn't bear to see the Chapel Street Estate in Brierley Hill fall into a dilapidated state.

The area had become untidy and the gardens were overgrown so he decided to take action and together with small band of volunteers formed The Raven Project.

Roger said: "I just wanted to see the place looking nice again - but something needed to be done."

The group has since been busy clearing out people's gardens as part of a community project which has the backing of Dudley Council.

Their efforts have been so impressive, the group has gained sponsorship from local businesses and residents.

Roger revealed: "One resident, who has lived here for over 20 years, said he had never seen the place looking so good and gave us some money for the scheme.

"Litter and waste have always been a problem around here and it's not getting any better. So we decided it was time to take things into our own hands."

The council has provided the group with various items, such as bag handles and gloves - and Roger hopes their efforts will inspire other people to take action.

They are also on the lookout for more volunteers.
