AS the season draws to its conclusion, it is just Alcester Bowling Club’s Over 60’s teams still engaged in competitive action.

The week brought victory for both A and B teams in the S & W Birmingham Over 60’s league. In Division 2 the A team hosted Woodlands Park B and recorded a convincing 44 shot win.

Excellent cards from Jean Bannister and Bob LeResche (both 21-6) were backed up by wins for Renny Bannister (21-14) and Jean and Ken Craddock (21-15 and 21-18 respectively). Although this nine points to one success still does not make them champions, this now looks to be a formality.

The B team in Division 6 did however become champions with an excellent 12 shot away win against Hockley Heath B. Winning cards from David Whittington (21-7), John Willis (21-11) and Geoff Spiers (21-14) gave them a nine points to three success.

Things were very much less satisfactory in the Heart of England Over 60’s league with both teams suffering defeats and losing league places in their respective divisions. The A team in Division 2 dropped to fourth place after a 22 shot defeat in their away match against Rubery SJC. Only John Alderson, with a superb 21-6 card, tasted victory as they slumped to a 15 points to one setback.

For the B team in Division 4 the situation is now almost hopeless. The home game with Green Man brought a seventh successive defeat, this time by eight shots. Geoff Spiers (21-10) and John Willis (21-14) garnered two points for Alcester, but the visitors racked up an impressive 14 in reply.

Only two points now keep Alcester out of the relegation zone, and the two teams immediately below them both have two games in hand.
