Kidderminster cyclist Kinga Ingram has finished the season in fine form.

First up was the National School Games at Loughborough where Kinga represented the West Midlands, top scoring for the team.

More than 1,000 athletes took part, with Kinga - a student at King Charles I School - on the first day coming fourth on the track in the scratch race (straight race of a prescribed number of laps) and fourth in ‘devil takes the hindmost’ – a race where the last person each lap is eliminated.

On the second day on the road, the Halesowen Cycling Club member won the time trial before coming taking another third place podium spot in the sprint competition.

The event finished with a 49k hilly road race comprising seven laps of 7k each where, in the final sprint, Kinga again took third place.

Talking after her medal winning ride in the road race on Sunday, Kinga said: “It was a really hard race - the hill was steeper than I expected so I was really happy to make the podium.

“On Saturday the sprints were much shorter than expected so I was glad to make the final. I was able to get the fastest individual time of the day too, which gave me the best chance to still be there fighting for the win. Overall it’s been a great experience.”

The penultimate races of the season took part at the London velodrome – scene of the British Olympic success in 2012 and the historic track at Herne Hill (part of the Olympics in 1948).

Riding against professional women’s teams, Kinga took a fifth place in the overall event at the velodrome, third in the TT and on the Sunday at Herne Hill took second place with her partner in the Madison.

There is one more race to come at Brands Hatch before a well-earned rest to conclude a strong season’s riding.
