A MAN in his 60s was repeatedly punched in the face during an attack in Dudley town centre.

The man was sitting on a bench in Market Place at around 11pm on Tuesday (September 25), when he was approached by two men who asked him for money.

When he refused, an argument took place and he was repeatedly punched in the face, suffering nasty facial injuries.

He then went home before calling an ambulance, who subsequently contacted the police.

The man remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Detective Inspector Ade George from Force CID, said: “We are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything on Tuesday evening at around 11pm to get in touch. This was a nasty attack on a man who as a result sustained serious facial injuries including a suspected fractured eye socket.

“We have carried out a trawl of CCTV to identify the suspects and have officers on patrol in and around the area.

“I would urge anyone with any information to contact my team."
