IT’S not every day you get three top comics performing at a pub in Dudley town centre.

In fact, it only happens once a month at The Court House.

On the last Friday of the month to be precise.

So there can only be three explanations for the half-full room I walked into on Friday night.

Perhaps the good folk of Dudley had far more exciting plans that night?

Maybe they just don’t like live comedy?

Or, despite the best efforts of show organiser and resident MC Wayne Beese, maybe people didn’t realise it was on?

It was disheartening to see how few seats had sold, knowing the hard work that goes on behind the scenes to put the gigs on but although it was a small crowd, it was a great crowd and it's safe to say that everyone had a fantastic night.

The first act on stage was Abi Roberts - and what a whirlwind she was!

She had the crowd crying with laughter (and possibly traumatised the youngest audience member) as she recounted a particularly memorable one night stand before showcasing her talent for accents - Marge Simpson being a particular highlight.

After a quick break for beer, it was the turn of Josh Pugh who had a slick and witty set. He was very likeable and had a great stage presence. I wish his set had been longer and think he is definitely one to watch.

People had one more chance to run to the bar before the headline act, Darren Harriott.

He’s an Oldbury lad done good as he has already performed on the likes of Live at The Apollo and after seeing his set, you can see why.

He’s hilarious and really connected with the audience, recalling his early years growing up in the Black Country, his time as a bouncer, his new life in London.

The applause and cheers that echoed through the room at the end was proof that people had been thoroughly entertained throughout the night.

But don't just take my word for it, see for yourself.

The next Comedy at The Court House show is on Friday, October 26.

Jonny Cole will be the headline act with support from Adam Staunton and Che Burnley.

Tickets cost £10 from www.ticketsource.co.uk/funnybeeseness.

Book now, you won't regret it!
